What are hair mites?

Humans naturally host microscopic mites called Demodex mites. They live in:

  • Hair follicles (including scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows)

  • Oil (sebaceous) glands

📏 How big are they?

  • Extremely small: about 0.1–0.4 millimeters long

  • Invisible to the naked eye—you need a microscope to see them

    • They tend to come out more at night and stay inside follicles during the day
